Why Co-working for Women of Color Matters

Too many of us have experienced racism and discrimination in the workplace and in other public spaces. Our presence and behavior are constantly monitored and questioned, no matter what. Ìpàdé is different. We created this space to provide our community members with the ease, security, affirmation, and support they’ve been missing.

Ìpàdé is a sanctuary

Have you ever felt like you were performing someone else at work? It happens all the time. We curate how we show up in different spaces. Sometimes this is necessary to get the job done. Other times, it happens because our authentic selves are not welcome there.

At Ìpàdé, your whole self is welcome 100% of the time - no performance required. Our space reflects and celebrates our heritage, culture, and beauty.

We do work differently

One of the very first events we did as Ìpàdé was a virtual session called Redefining Productivity, led by consultant Mattice Haynes. In April 2020 when everyone was first adjusting to life inside, this conversation affirmed the varying ways we are productive in life and unpacked the definition of productivity.

At Ìpàdé, we do work differently because women of color deserve rest and balance. Here, you have the space and opportunity to craft your day how you want. You can ease into your day, hop on a call in the phone booth, unwind in the sun room, or chat with a friend in our lounge. You get to define what being productive means to you with the tools to make it happen.

We’ve got your back

Navigating the professional world solo is tough. It always helps to have a network of people with similar lived experiences to offer a helping hand, share lessons learned, unpack professional challenges, and encourage you to do and be your best. Together, we are growing and reaching new professional and personal levels.
